A score of 10 indicates the home has excellent energy performance.

Your Score

An assessor visits your home, collects information on its construction and appliances, then uses a formula developed by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to score your home’s energy use on a scale of 1 to 10. You will also receive information on the homes existing features, an estimate of your home’s energy use, associated costs, and suggested energy and electrification solutions to improve your home’s efficiency.

Home Energy Score® is a program of the U.S. Department of Energy. StopWaste is a Home Energy Score® partner serving the San Francisco Bay Area in collaboration with BayREN.

Cost & Rebate Process

HES costs vary depending on factors, such as location and home size. There are three steps to get your rebate.

  1. Find an assessor near you by searching our database
  2. Talk to the assessor about the $200 BayREN rebate and ask if there are any additional rebates.
  3. Book your HES and get your report and score.

Assessors will have the rebate form on the date of your appointment. They will walk you through the application process.
