What to Expect
A certified Home Energy Score Assessor will conduct a short walk-through of your home and collect information about:
- Insulation
- Windows and doors
- Air sealing and ductwork
- Heating and cooling systems
- Water heating
Your score is calculated using the U.S. Department of Energy’s standardized scoring tool.
What You’ll Receive
Your Home Energy Score includes:
- A 1-10 energy efficiency score
- Clear facts about your home’s current energy use, including cost and greenhouse gas emissions estimates
- Personalized recommendations to improve comfort and efficiency
- Guidance on upgrades that can help manage energy costs
In some areas, you may also learn about rebates or incentives that can help make upgrades more affordable.

The Statewide Home Energy Score California Program is administered by the Bay Area Regional Energy Network (BayREN) and implemented by Earth Advantage. It is funded by Pacific Gas and Electric Company, SDG&E, SoCalGas, and Southern California Edison Company, and utility ratepayers under the auspices of the California Public Utilities Commission.
